Klochkova, new friend of the EURO



Four-time Olympic champion Yana Klochkova swimming has been announced as the 38th Friend of UEFA EURO 2012 in Ukraine.

The gold medalist in the 200 m and 400 medley at the Olympic Games in 2000 and 2004 received his diploma from the tournament director of the UEFA EURO 2012 in Ukraine Markiyan Lubkivskiy, during a conference called 'We are the hosts of EURO 2012' the No. 170 Institute of Kiev. Klochkova said he knows the responsibility that comes to Ukraine to be the organizer of the tournament, having represented the country in several major competitions.

"It'sa great honor for me to become a Friend of the EURO 2012. I will do everything I can to help Ukraine to host the tournament the best way possible," said Klochkova, Ukraine known by the nickname of 'Goldfish'.

Up to 100 people in each of the host nations, Poland and Ukraine will enjoy the privilege of being named Friends of the EURO. Half will be elected by the respective local organizing committees between prominent public figures, while the remaining places will be open to the general public through competitions among people of all ages.
